Report An Absence
Attendance Matters!
Coming to school every day, on time, can help students feel better about themselves and their learning, and help them succeed in school and in life! The EVSC has an attendance policy that’s designed to provide you with the support you need to get your child to school.
Regular attendance directly affects student success. School is very hard for students when they miss classes. Students are required by Indiana law to attend school regularly until they are 18 years old. After age 18, students must be regularly attending and earning credits toward a diploma to stay enrolled.
We want to see your student in school, every day! However, we also know things happen, but it's important to know the difference between absences, including excused, unexcused and truant absences. Why is attendance so important? We know that students who attend school regularly earn better grades; build better relationships and friendships; stay interested and engaged in school; and have better overall school outcomes.
Reporting Absences
To make it quicker and easier for families to report absences, the EVSC uses a system called SafeArrival. SafeArrival is part of our larger communication system called SchoolMessenger. Please report your absence by 9 a.m. In addition, if your student will miss due to a doctor's visit, please provide the doctor's statement within one week of the absence. Only doctor's statements, legal statements and funeral statements are considered excused absences.(Excused absences are the only absences that do not count against the absences for pre-court purposes.)
