Principal's Message

Mrs White

Mrs. Katie White

Greetings, West Terrace family!

I am honored and excited to continue representing West Terrace as school principal.  I value the relationships with teachers, parents, and the community.  They are the foundation of all we are able to accomplish individually and collectively.  I maintain that we have the best jobs in the world:  educating young minds and empowering them to lead and change the world in beautiful ways!

My mission is this:

Lead with comPASSION

Teach mindfulness

Nurture potential

Reach tomorrow’s leaders TODAY

Have you considered your personal mission? It's a wonderful way to make sure you live your purpose every day.

As this is my mission, I strive to support the endeavors of the teachers and parents in helping every child contribute their personal best every day. As a parent, I know the importance of reaching children where they are and helping them find their voice as learners. As a teacher, I understand the need to stimulate the academic development while encouraging independence in learning. As an administrator, my intention is to create an environment in which teachers are able to maximize their instruction while children excel in their social and academic development by:

  • creating a safe learning environment
  • offering the opportunity for the individual to surpass expectation
  • producing a climate that welcomes innovation and creativity
  • honoring accomplishments
  • forging partnerships with the community.
I am eager to meet and learn about every student in our building and help them achieve their goals. I look forward to a productive, supportive partnership between home, school, and community.

I feel very lucky to be in such an exemplary school among great students, staff, and families.

About Mrs. White
I am married to Mike, who works as the Director of Container Decorating, Evansville Operations, at Berry Plastics. We have two wonderful children, my daughter Cassie, 24, who graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and has returned to Evansville to open her own letterpress and graphic design business; and my son Jaime, 22, who graduated from New Tech Institute, and is working towards his career as he and his fiance settle into a life here in Evansville together.

I moved to Evansville in 1984, where I attended the University of Evansville and obtained a bachelor's degree and a license in Special Education. I began my career in Arcadia, Indiana, where I taught high school for one year at Hamilton Heights High School before returning to Evansville. I continued to teach as a special educator for 8 more years, at Mulberry Center and at Stockwell Elementary. I continued my education and expanded my license to include general education and moved to a general education classroom at Stockwell where I remained for 7 years. During this time, I obtained a master's degree from Walden University in elementary education with a focus in reading and literacy. I continued schooling at the University of Southern Indiana in the school administrator's licensure program. I moved to Highland in 2006 to teach 5th grade for a year, and served for two years there as the assistant principal. I understand the challenges of working, being a student, and balancing life as a member of a busy family and hope to use this to maximize your experiences while at West Terrace.

I gained much experience, insight, and perspective from my teaching and administrative positions and look forward to sharing this knowledge with our WT family in my sixth year as principal here at West Terrace.

The journey we’re on together is one that I feel is the most important endeavor to have in our society—to raise children to be passionate about learning, to honor one another in the process, and to challenge each other to excel. The example we set for children will be remembered....

Leading, teaching, nurturing, and reaching tomorrow's leaders today,

Mrs. Katie White
